My Blog

A place where I share my process, my work, ideas and have conversations with like minded souls.

100 day project - what am I doing and why?

So I enrolled in one of the many #100dayprojecs on instagram.

And if you follow me there you may have already seen some of these pics, but I’ve added a few not yet seen photos of my work on this project.

So what is the 100 day project and for those of you unversed on what this is - don’t feel bad - most of us don’t even know what this means.

The point of all of these challenges is to get people to start creating. And to do it on a consistent basis - to grow in their work. The premise is great. The idea is that you create something every day for a 100 days based on a theme that you have chosen. So you may decided that for 100 days you will create a collage every day, or you will paint a watercolor every day. And then you post what you you worked on every day. The commitment isn’t really so much about the 100 days, as it is about getting into the habit of just doing something creative every day.

Like I did here with a watercolor pencil, and her clothes. I was inspired by the washi tape I had just purchased - a perfect “blouse” - true mixed media in my opinion. I love working with wash tape - it opens up a whole world of possibilities

The other major benefit is that you get to build a community of like minded people. Every artist creates alone. It’s not like anyone has anyone in their workspace while they are creating going “ wow -that’s great. that’s beautful, omg - while they are creating. So sharing in a like minded space has a lot of benefits for an arist.

So by sharing you get some feedback - good or bad - its better than just creating alone.

In 2008 when I started blogging we used to link to one another’s blog and there was such a sense of community. Now it is much faster paced, and we just share. share, share. I miss those blogging and sharing days where you had to read each bloggers perspective on the challenge. But for those of you reading this still - you know exactly what I mean.

In any case, for those of you who don’t “do” instagram - and I love you for it - here are a few pics that are part of my 100 day challenge. You will see that I am just throwing everything out there. Every night, whatever I paint, draw sketch, collage is making its ways out there in the hopes of sharing and connecting.
